Anxiety Counseling

You may be feeling restless, your mind is racing with thoughts, or you are stressed with anticipating the future. I understand, and I’m here to help.

I help people build and maintain adaptive coping skills in order to regulate their nervous system and connect them back into the present moment.

My approach to Anxiety Counseling in Austin

It seems as though most of us suffer from some form of anxiety these days. How could you not? According to Boston College Researchers, anxiety has increased to 50% in the past three years which is six times higher than in early 2019.  This likely means if you were not stressed prior to November 2020, you probably are feeling it now and even know someone who is experiencing symptoms of anxiety as well.  In many ways, anxiety has become contagious and unmanageable to handle.

Anxiety can interfere with our functioning by keeping us up late at night, suppressing our appetite, or getting behind on work deadlines. It seems as though everyone else around us can “make it work” while we are riddled with feelings of panic and distress in our daily routine.

I believe anxiety is usually a symptom of what may be going on below the surface.  Anxiety can often hold the place of unprocessed emotions such as sadness, fear, or even anger.  When our minds are racing at an accelerated rate, we are not able to gather our thoughts, let alone our feelings! However, before we can begin to uncover some of those blocks, it is essential we introduce tools that will allow us to move out of the flight, fight, freeze state(s), and ultimately regulate our nervous system.

My Process as an Anxiety Therapist

In my practice as an anxiety therapist, I specialize in Anxiety Counseling, utilizing a holistic approach that encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. I am committed to guiding my clients toward a profound sense of well-being and peace. Through the integration of sensory and mindfulness tools, I offer a unique and compassionate therapeutic experience. My goal is to empower individuals to navigate their anxiety with greater resilience and inner harmony. I utilize a modality known as the Trauma Resiliency Zone, which is based on the belief that we all possess inherent resilience and we have the capacity to restore balance within our minds and bodies after traumatic experiences. The Resilient Zone is an internal guide that illustrates if we are in the high zone (angry, stressed, irritable, edgy, or anxious), low zone (sad, lonely, exhausted, tired, or disconnected), or are we operating in the middle.  The goal is to widen our resilience zone and ultimately use the TRM skills to bring us back into alignment or away from the high and/or low zones. TRM involves using nine skills.  The first six skills are used in the session and can also be used outside of the session. The last three skills are only used in the session to reprocess traumatic memories through the guidance of a therapist. During a session, the therapist invites the client to shift from the traumatic memory to TRM skills that include tracking sensations within the body, a resource, or grounding to allow the nervous system to gently come back into alignment.
